The Business Post reported yesterday that hundreds of luxury apartments lie vacant at two prominent Dublin rental blocks. Labour housing spokesperson Rebecca Moynihan said described this as a “scandal… while thousands of families have no proper home”. She said a levy on empty housing is “urgently needed” – there is already a vacant site levy in place.
An independent report presented to government in 2018 did not recommend bringing in a vacant property tax at that time.Yes No Only in cities #Open journalism No news is bad news Support The Journal Your contributions will help us continue to deliver the stories that are important to you
Really it’s none of her business what people do with their personal property
Only if it's not in probate. But yes otherwise
No, it’s landlords own business what they do with they property.. if they are neglected and a danger to the public then yes
20,000 landlords have exited the rental market recently, all thanks to the Marxists and do-gooder charities! Price controls and heavy regulation simply makes it harder to rent a place. Marxism is a toxic ideology.
Definitely 100000% yes!!!
Yes, it will ensure that there are apartments on the market.
Orla_Hegarty No vulture funds should be banned from buying housing.
Third answer, 'only in cities' are you mad? Homeless families would love any opportunity at a stable life, you just need the country to 'broadband the f*ck up!'
First answer 'yes', second answer 'why do you even need to ask that question?'
This is the negative side of rent control. Landlords won't reduce their prices quickly as they won't be able to bring them back if the market recovers. Lets not bring in further interventions which will also likely have unintended consequences
No, there should not. Stop vulture funds from buying up new builds in bulk and while we have a housing crisis only new builds can be bought by first time buyers. Problem solved, no new tax required.
Yes houses vacant I’d derelict need to be restored & put into use in these housing shortages continues
How about incentives to rent it out etc. instead of more fees.
There should be a CPO on property vacant for 5 years.
