British bus firm Go Ahead has failed to meet the targets agreed with the National Transport Authority.

Image: Leah Farrell/RollingNews.ie THE PRIVATISATION OF parts of Dublin’s bus network initially proved controversial. Now, British-owned firm Go-Ahead, which won a contract in 2017 to run 24 routes previously operated by Dublin Bus, has been criticised for failing to meet its targets.

Almost half of services operated by the company have so far failed to meet punctuality targets set out in the company’s contract with the National Transport Authority. Figures obtained by TheJournal.ie also show the NTA received more than 4,000 complaints in relation to Go-Ahead since the start of the year, almost half of which related to late services or buses failing to show up.The problems have sparked concerns over privatisation and what it means for the future of Irish transport.

“It confirms our worst fears about privatisation, and the government should review the decision to put these routes out to tender,” People Before Profit TD Richard Boyd-Barrett said.No Yes I don't know

They may be late but my daughter says drivers are always polite and nice, not so with Dublin Bus

Don't go there!! Public transport will become far more important these next decades, a state should always own it's infrastructure.

Yes

For someone who worked as one privatisation would not improve the service. If the bus lanes had cameras like the UK and a traffic cops to issue fines to motorists that block and clog bus lines during peak times would go along way to keep the service going efficiently.

In my experience the NTA are appalling. I would close them down first.

I can never understand why people vote “I don’t know” in these types of polls. Either take the time to educate yourself on the matter or keep going. Strange mentality!

No

A glimpse at our near neighbor- UK - highlights the complete failure of a privatized transport system. Continental Europeans maintain superior transport infrastructure across the board, it’s nearly all State owned.

No pensions now for new bus drivers in bus Éireann.

I think not , look at the state of the U.K. public transportation after privatization .. the majority of countries with excellent public transport are government run

I think the question should be “given the lack of GardaTraffic enforcement, should we privatise the policing of bus lanes?” Or “Given the sub-standard level infrastructure, should we privatise the NTA for better design of bus lanes?”

Yes or else take back the running of Bus Eireann from the Unions.

Nope it’s 💩

Idk, but I know that there's one Irish bus service so deep in the private sector that they've never been paid for their work, they don't even know who is supposed to pay them, and they only continue out of a sense of duty to their town, and the people that need to get to work.
