Meanwhile, a staggering one in 67 people in Ireland have tested positive in the last two weeks

People returning to work in the coming weeks could lead to another surge of Covid-19 infections, one of Ireland's top experts has warned.

Speaking tonight, Professor Nolan, who is Chair of the Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group, urged employers to keep workers at home for the coming weeks. Dr Cillian De Gascun, Medical Virologist and Director of the National Virus Reference Laboratory, also elaborated on the risks that new variants of the disease pose.

Dr Tony Holohan added: “Today we are giving some more information on the 208 people who have been reported to have sadly died from COVID-19 so far this month.
