“Fantastic,” Paula told Tommy “And you know the blackbird is the emblem of Irish poetry, since the blackbird of Belfast Locke, the little marginalia from which we derive our secular tradition.” Tommy replied, "The image I got in my head as you were speaking was almost of a blackboard fluttering about in a library and people are reading these big serious books but there’s this living thing in the room”.
