Reid said it is 'the hardest decision he had ever made' during his career

Reid said it is"the hardest decision he had ever made" during his career.

CEO of the Health Service Executive of Ireland Paul Reid will step down from his role later year this year, the HSE has confirmed. In a statement issued on Monday morning , Reid said that he made the call"with a heavy heart" and that it represents"the hardest decision he had ever made in relation to his career".

"Having previously worked in the private, not for profit, central and local government sectors, working in the HSE has been by far the greatest period in my career," said Reid."It has been truly rewarding leading an organisation whose staff come to work every day to make people’s lives better. "No organisation will ever match the commitment, dedication and relentless willingness to go beyond the call of duty that I have witnessed as we battled multiple waves of Covid, a criminal cyber attack while driving a significant reform agenda. This has been truly inspirational for me to experience.

"He has led the health service through what has been the greatest challenge it has ever faced, and done so with relentless dedication and professionalism. We are very grateful that he will stay in his role for a further period to allow us progress the extremely difficult task of replacing him."WATCH: Elvis director Baz Luhrmann compares his new star Austin Butler to when he directed Leo DiCaprio in Romeo & Juliet...

'Challenges' to disability services recruitment - ReidThere are more than 700 unfilled posts in children's disability services. It amounts to a third of the more than 2,000 professionals required to provide state services to children with additional needs | Ok, but where is the reporting as to *why* it is a 'challenging hiring environment'? Why not be more aggressive in questioning Paul Reid? What T&Cs are these roles being offered? Why is it not an attractive place to work? We all know this impacts kids. Come on RTÉ, do better. ‘Challenging’ wow. Like trying to open up Autism classes in a matter of weeks and just expect them to be successful when underfunded. Therapists do not want to work here! Same as teachers. They are emigrating to better working systems. Time to wake up and spend some money. Why doesn't this surprise me! I'm getting a little irked by this lack of joined up thinking by those who should have anticipated this whole scenario. I mean ffs lad's. Not good enough
