Paul Merson left with egg on his face after dismal North London derby prediction

Paul Merson got his north London derby prediction badly wrong after tipping Arsenal to "absolutely slaughter" Tottenham.

Speaking on Sky Sports the day before the match, Merson said: “I'm bullish, very bullish. I can't see anything but an Arsenal win. I think they will absolutely slaughter them, I do. Absolutely rip them to shreds. “Arsenal have got better players than Tottenham, no question, all over the pitch. You talk about[James] Maddison, good player but you would not take him over[Martin] Odegaardany day of the week. [Yves] Bissouma has done well, but you wouldn't take him over[Declan] Rice, in my opinion.

Arsenal made a fast start at the Emirates and took the lead after 26 minutes courtesy of a Cristian Romero own goal, but they didn't have things all their own way. Son restored parity on the stroke of half time and then bcancelled out Arsenal's second goal just 27 seconds after Bukayo Saka had clinically dispatched his penalty.Speaking after the match, Arteta made it clear he felt it was a case of two points dropped for Arsenal.
