Tens of thousands of people lined the streets of Dublin to watch the St Patrick’s Day parade as Grand Marshal Patrick Kielty dubbed it “the biggest party in the world”.
Visitors travelled from as far away as Bolivia, California and China to catch a glimpse of the vibrant spectacle..Some performers were dressed as sea creatures and others as the ancient Celtic goddess Danu. One group in the pageant dressed as Dublin’s landmark street lamps, while another performance featured a greedy group of giant gulls.
In a new aspect, a “quiet space” was set up near College Green for 1,000 neurodivergent people and their families which had sensory areas and where the volume of noise from the festivities was reduced dramatically. The TV presenter said it was “a massive honour” to be the Grand Marshal, adding it was “emotional” for him, adding: “To be the Patrick at the front of this parade is one of the proudest moments of my life.
