Patrick Bergin has ruled himself out of entering Irish politics anytime soon as he takes on the role of a shady small town politician in a brand new RTE comedy.
Speaking on the set of the climate conscious comedy The South Westerlies, where he plays a local councillor, the Dubliner said: “My father was a senator, and so politics was always part of my family. Labour party. Based in small coastal town in the south-west of Ireland, earmarked for a Norwegian-owned wind farm, it’s not just the spectacular scenery that’s under pressure.
Lifting the lid on what viewers can expect from his new role, Bergin said: “He is a councillor, he has a pub in the village, in the town and he is also involved in the planning of the wind farm.“He says what has to be said at any one moment in time.”He added: “He’s married, he has a lovely wife, and he has a very intelligent show who is on the radio and involved with the media in that sense.
