Padraig Harrington admits he's still trying to catch lightning in a bottle as he counts down to his World Golf Hall of Fame induction at Pinehurst on Monday.
“I’d love to win one of them and if you’d give me the choice I’d pick The Senior Open at Carnoustie," said Harrington of going back to the venue where he won his first major title in 2007. That would be a big summer. Hopefully I should have some winning weeks. Hopefully they fall in the really big weeks, but you just don’t know.
Harrington's son Paddy - the one who asked his dad if he could put ladybirds in the Claret Jug when he one The Open for the first time 17 years ago - wanted to deliver the introductory speech for the Hall of Fame event. "So getting into the Hall of Fame brings a lot of emotions. Validation, satisfaction, no doubt about it. And they were the first emotions, 100%. It's a deep-set satisfaction.
In fact, Harrington looks back on his career with no regrets. To go with all the glory he also had plenty of heartbreak to endure, including 40 runners-up finishes and that losing Ryder Cup captaincy at Whistling Straits in 2022. "Everybody loved the week and was very appreciative of everything except for losing, which is what you're going to be judged on. But time heals. You can only do what you can at the time. I don't feel like we left any stone unturned for that."
