It’s a well known story, been told again and again , but nothing is ever done about it. Carers give up their careers , their lives , their own health and wellbeing in many cases , save the state thousands , and are left in poverty . Shameful.

They should be treated with equality like other caring services. Fair pay for a commitment to look after our elderly and frail population.

I am a full time carer for my mother and get €224 per week and have to pay rent and run a car out of that shit money . We get absolutely fuck all all and as many as stated we save 20billion to the state per year at least give us a fair pay

And 100% of family carers are still waiting on the contributory pension stamp promised by LeoVaradkar when he was promising frontline staff the €1000 bonus

If the States get the balls to reduce expenses for the 21y-48y old 'physically' capable who don't bother seeking a job & rather prefer their comfortable social housing fully paid & their weekly generous social welfare (by the way, the highest in EU), that'll help on the long run!

Seen it first hand, treated like a s**t by the State and by their own families who won't help out and share the burden, often it's one person who is left to do all the caring.

Home caring is an unregulated industry. While there are many genuine carers, it is not the majority by any stretch!

Fucking pay them more then saving the country a fortune

Then councils include the measly 112 euro in the rent assessments, if they haven't enough to be dealing with.

Add in the personal mental stress to those forced to do the caring. The state should be doing more.

Just wait till care assistants learn about inflation. Boomers may finally get taste of own medicine? FFG and ECB royally fkd it.
