There were just over 553,000 patients on the list at the start of the year, with the backlog created by the Covid-19 pandemic resulting in the number surpassing 600,000 for the first time. These are patients who have already had treatment and require further treatment at a future date – for example, a patient who has had a scope may require surveillance monitoring scopes in the future – and have been assigned indicative dates for treatment.
