The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection today confirmed it had sent out 507,000 of the payments on Friday, April 3.The 507,000 payments of €350 each mean the Government is spending over €177 million a week on social welfare for those out of a job directly due to the Covid-19 crisis.That means 714,000 people are receiving some sort of unemployment income support from the Government in Ireland as of this week.
It added that the level of payments reflects the unprecedented demand for the Department’s income supports since Friday, March 13. DEASP wishes to remind people to take care when submitting applications, to ensure that critical information such as dates of birth, PPSN and IBANs are entered correctly. An IBAN has 22 characters and people should take care that it is entered correctly.
Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection, Regina Doherty today said: "The scale of demand for the Covid-19 payment demonstrates the once in a century nature of the emergency facing the country as we face this unique emergency.
