One more person has died of Covid-19 in Ireland, according to the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing on Thursday evening . The country's coronavirus death toll now stands at 1,749.
Additionally, 21 new cases of the virus have been reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre, bringing Ireland's known total to 25,698. This takes into account six denotified cases. Speaking this evening, Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ronan Glynn said:"The cases which we will report next week have already been seeded, however we have the power to limit the spread and impact of this disease beyond that; the way we do so is through following public health advice, avoiding high risk situations and encouraging our friends and family to do the same."
Professor Philip Nolan, Chair of the NPHET Irish Epidemiological Modelling Advisory Group, said:"Our best estimate of the R-number currently stands at 1.4 but it could be as high as 1.8. We have an opportunity now to maintain suppression of the virus." It was announced yesterday that Ireland would be delaying Phase 4 until 10 August, meaning that the reopening of pubs that don't serve food has been paused, and rules remain the same for gatherings indoors and outdoors. The Architects of Business...
