Oliver Callan has said he struggled so much to get work after his radio gig ended when Gerry Ryan died that he almost gave up comedy for good.
“I floated for the three or four year period after that, it was a very grim time and there wasn’t much work.“Callan's Kicks is seven years old, so it took three years to get back on my feet again and that’s what kind of part of the whole pandemic blow was - nothing could be as bad as my 2012. Reflecting on the panic amid Covid-19 distruptions, which have resulted in a cancelled tour and wedding for the comic, he added: “I was there thinking, 'I’m going to have to go and get a real job now, this comedy thing is over'. It’s your confidence, it gets shot.
“Radio is really good because it takes a long time to build up a following but when you have them, you have them long term.
