Ireland Headlines News

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has welcomed the publication of a new OECD report that calls for a reallocation of road space and the promotion of on-demand shared services, such as 'dial-a-ride' shuttle buses or rental bikes and e-bikes

Minister Ryan said the report both supports and challenges the Government’s transport policy ambitions.

The result is that Ireland's road space, towns and cities have developed largely to facilitate cars to pass through, with a focus on mobility – that is getting from a to b as fast as possible - rather than prioritising easy and healthy accessibility to work, schools or town centres.

A joke, what media partner is RTE promoting now, ching, ching! Ireland does not have the climate for such activity. As law is enacted on e-scooters & e-bikes watch road deaths rise, sadly, as there will be lots of them on the roads mixed with buses, cars, trucks, etc. RSAIreland

EamonRyan Fantastic!

Total bollox

Widen the roads.

I love my car. Its much harder for a knack bag to rob than an eScooter or eBike. All this “urban mobility” shite sounds great on a thesis in UCD or Trinity but in reality it doesn’t work for many ordinary people.

Too much 'should: too little 'this is the plan'

I drive from IRL to Europe. NL have the best roads, cycling infrastructure and public transport. One doesn’t need to supersede the other to work. We could have both if the government were willing to invest. Instead we get horrendous roads and awful cycle lanes that suit nobody.

Every main road into towns and villages should have a bus and a footpath.

🤣

All the virtue seekers conveniently forget none of what they advocate is available so pie in the sky for forseeable future.

Smart cities, all part of Agenda2030 wake up!

again, no discussion on motorcycles.

The issue with road use is a problem with where people live and work. Look at the roads congested around Dublin. The n7 full of traffic and always will be.

Was driving through inchicore recently and ambulance couldn’t get through the traffic because of all those stupid plastic bollards. No room for cars to pull in. As usual, people will die because of unintended consequences of green policies.

You muppets have every town in Ireland in tatters with poxy cycle lanes 🤬🤬🤬

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

You will own nothing and be happy, renting bikes and on demand transportation being promoted 🤔anyone not getting the WEF message who isn’t rich?

So when the elites finally stop private car use by pricing it out of the proles price range they can still get around🙄

No. Either leave us alone or learn the hard way.

What about a better Bus service ?

E car?

RTE’s churning out of covid propaganda has finally run out of steam…….and now for the ‘green agenda’. Let’s see how this works on this years toy show!

The propaganda against car ownership begins. This is always how it starts. Bad for health, dangerous, bad for the environment. Why don't they just cut out the beginning and middle crap and cut to the chase and come out with what they really want.

Can’t wait to walk from kinnegad to Dublin 🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻🚶🏻

More e-bikes is a great idea!

We say no to your 15 minute cities otherwise known as prisons.

EamonRyan Get the remote working bill in fast so the rat race into Citys will ease. Traffic is worse than ever now.

The hatred of the car

You gotta be joking. Try getting a bus that is scheduled every 15 minutes. If the driver is out sick, you can be waiting half an hour for an eventual overloaded bus. There is no way I am trying to travel in and out of work without the car, no effing way.

What sort of loser do you think I am? Cycling? Should I get the Lycra and all, just to fully make a wholly show of myself? Fuck that, I'm sticking to the Range Rover.

The absolute horror of having Greens pursue their medieval lifestyle cult in the Dail.

Who wrote the report? Uber, Freenow, bolt? Or anyone of the other mobility companies who have been lobbying our corrupt councillors for years.

When cyclists, and people walking on the roads, pay for it, and insurance, then I'll move over.

EamonRyan Time for people to share bikes like in the 80s, handle bars, cross bars and another lad on the back wheel nuts, that’s the future. 4 to a bike. Let’s do it.

Yes more trams, trains, busses - public transport basically and in all of Ireland. People down the country have no transport other than their own cars. It’s embarrassing.

It's all about choices. Some countries/cities see the unsustainability of car dependency. Others (like Dublin) are slow to learn this and suffer the consequences...

OK we will all stop driving car's so how do we pay for it with no road tax 🙄

But let's worry about damn bikes on the road. Let them pay road tax and then give them a say.

Time to plan for an outer ring road

More space is needed for vehicles, you know the ones that pay road tax to be on the road. Too many 2 way roads where 2 vehicles can't pass because the roads get too narrow. Vehicles are only getting bigger but the local roads in Ireland never change. Joke of a country.

Green Party report roll on the next election

All well & good but Have you tried getting a bus or luas during peak hours? Everyone packed full leaving people standing on platforms. That’s if your lucky enough to have public transport or it hasn’t been reduced as is the case with many rural towns.

Another airy fairy idea from the dail. Public transport in this country is a joke. For the shift workers where is the 1am/2am/3am bus in or out of any town? The only way into or out of the CAPITAL city centre on a weeknight after 12.30 is a fortune in a taxi or your own car.

This continuous anti car BS is a waste of time. Look around any housing estate and observe the number of cars. People don't keep an expensive to buy, run and maintain car unless they need it or benefit greatly from it. Cars are fantastic. They give us freedom and independence.

DublinCommuters I did lobby EamonRyan for this but there was nothing in the budget?

A simple solution is to require registration of all means of transport. A bike or a car but not both.

DublinCommuters Hopefully he’ll fight harder for it then.

Eamon Ryan = blinkered baffoon

The man's a genius!

It's very unfair on motorists. 1. They will be forced to give up their road space. (Roads funded thru car taxes). 2. They will have to pay for it too.

No, Thank you.

So more ways for companies to rip off people. I’m amazed that people attack something as brilliant as a car.

Can we just get the basics right first such as having a bus that actually shows up?

Oh, great. last time it was: we were all supposed to switch to diesel motors for automobiles. What's next? jet packs?

Dial a ride sounds interesting 🤔

So you don't have to own anything? 🤔

Irish people: OECD must get their nose out of our business.

Dial-a-ride meant something entirely different in my day!!

this is a statement of the obvious - we have limited road space so we have to reduce the number of journeys made in the vehicles that take up the most space. As people need to travel that means switching the means many of those journeys are made by to public transport & bikes

Just now you figured that out?

He needs a new message, this one is not working.

People need to object when these cycle lanes go for public consultation. We are wasting 365 million a year on these. Why is so much space being reallocated to serve the 2 per cent lyrca brigade. greenparty_ie EamonRyan

Who woke him up to tell him?

Dial a ride, recommended by Eamonn Ryan

roads/cycle lanes are barely cyclable as they are. Potholes and rough everywhere.

Yes let's make footpaths smaller to accommodate cyclists who when they have cycle lanes are still cycling on the footpath

Reallocate from where The already overcrowded roads that service urban areas!!! As usual putting the cart before the horse

Will this medieval lifestyle cult never end?

Dial a ride is nothing new in Ireland
