New Zealand health officials have confirmed the first case of Covid-19 in the community for more than two months, sparking urgent contract-tracing efforts north of Auckland.

A 56-year-old woman who recently returned from Europe tested positive 10 days after completing a compulsory two weeks in managed isolation, although she had noticed symptoms several days before getting tested.

New Zealand director-general of health Ashley Bloomfield said she had returned two negative tests while in isolation, and her husband had not shown any symptoms. Authorities were reviewing closed-circuit television footage to see if the woman contracted the virus while in the managed isolation facility.

A man who returned from India in August returned two negative tests in isolation but did not start showing Covid symptoms until five days after his release. Mr Hancock said "we would like to have more information on the new variants" seen abroad, adding: "We're working on those."

Funny how an airborne respiratory virus would still manage to transmit even with lockdowns amazing that isn’t it 🙄😂🤷🏻‍♂️

Looks like the mutat covid strain in Brazil is looking worse over there. Ooh wait More bullsh1t from a bullsh1t msm propaganda stations

We have a government who are useless at keeping us safe. New Zealand's government are far more intelligent

So the zero covid route is shite and the 14 day mandatory quarantine rule is shite! The cracks are finally appearing! Hard they ever considered that covid was always there but people were to terrified of coming forward cos they'd be locked up for 2 weeks!

St Jacinda will be displeased.

These people travelling the world as if there is no pandemic...shame on this person and their selfishness 👎

Somebody get Sam McBonkers and whiny McLysaght on the phone 😂

So much for zero covid

See even her quarantine didn't work.

Even if you are as remote as NZ, close your borders and lock ppl in hotels and isolate them for 14 days u still have cases popping up. Now imagine Ireland where we are joined at the hip to the UK via NI. Anyone who says ZeroCovid is a moron

Imagine. This must be seen as an epic failure of the zerocovid approach. What were they thinking? /S
