The number of Respiratory Syncytial Virus cases in Ireland has reached a new and"unprecedented" record high.
About 65% of those 731 cases were in children aged between zero and four, while the next most affected group were aged over 65. He said that in previous years, the peak figure would be about half what was reported just last week, so Ireland is now experiencing"substantially more" RSV cases than would be expected in any given year.
Dr Martin said the fact that 290 people were hospitalised with the virus last week underlines how serious an illness it can be for some people, while for most it is just like a common cold.
This and the amount of current cancer cases is a sad indictment of lockdown policies.
For most this is a bad cold. For a newborn, this can be life threatening. If inflames the bronchioles making them narrow and air flow is severely restricted. In 4 week old it can have a mortality around 10%. we have PICUs for the most severely affected.
A person can get RSV by touching a surface or object with RSV on it (e.g. a facemask) and then touching their mouth, nose, or eyes.
Experimental vaccine that doesn't cure anything + lock-down that reset our immunity system to near ground zero. Now if you catch a cold or flu you'd be easily taking 2 to 3 times longer to entirely recover from it.
