The eligibility conditions for the Covid-19 unemployment allowance are to be reviewed. The move comes as new figures showed just under 580,000 people were in receipt of the €350 per week payment | More:

These figures are on top of the 214,700 people receiving Jobseekers' Benefit at the end of April.

Some of those who returned to work last week will be having their incomes supported by the state under the TWSS. The source said there is a view that employees working for sectors that are back open should not to be eligible for the scheme. Sinn Féin's spokesperson on finance has called on the government to continue the payment for the remainder of the year.

Mr Nash has called for clarity on if enough money will be provided to the department to keep paying the payment in the weeks ahead.

LET PEOPLE GO BACK TO WORK THEN !!!!

At least this time workers are getting some help not the banks. Keep the payment going so people will be able to spend it locally.

coleman_ronan The less well off benefitting from a bail out of sorts seems to ruffle the feathers of some.

That is the problem when politicians shoot from the hip: Half digested and not fully thought though policies like same payment regardless of full or part time workers and now a surprising result that businesses are having difficulty getting their staff back; surprise, surprise

Understand it was important to roll out fast but it will be good to get people that shouldn’t be on it, off it just as fast.

Larry Donnelly: An erratic Trump now leads a US further divided by Covid-19Donnelly says voters this year will believe in Trump the straight-shooter or Trump the perpetually offended narcissist. Really? It's all Trumps fault? It's the democrat governors that are mucking about. We have the same problem here in Ireland, unbelievable corruption. The deaths per 100K are higher in Ireland compared to the US. Such an irritating article, full of bad prose, ignorance and bias. Larry Donnelly is a Democratic mouthpiece. Journal won't get someone neutral because of their natural Liberal bias. Trump will be elected in 2020 and Larry will cry Liberal tears.
