NPHET say normal life 'some way off' and warn of 'considerable' fourth wave risk

THE government has been advised by NPHET that there is a “considerable risk” that a fourth wave of infections will happen if restrictions are lifted too soon.

The Department of Health published the advice that NPHET gave to the government prior to Taoiseach Micheál Martin making the decision to extend Level Five restrictions for at least another six weeks. NPHET said vaccines will play a critical role in protecting the public but “ it is not possible to know at this stage what level of protection vaccination will give.”

“While we have just cause to be hopeful that things will improve over the course of the year, it is simply too early to predict what the future trajectory of the disease will be given all the uncertainties and unknowns in relation to variants and vaccine effectiveness and uptake levels.”

That’s who... 'Covid' is a mild respiratory illness for the vast majority of people. Once any interested vulnerable are 'vaccinated', everything should reopen. The people of Ireland have sacrificed everything they possibly can for a year. It's not their role to carry the HSE's burden further. So why oh why can't they learn from this and prevent a domino effect of new variants coming into the country by stopping travel into the country.
