The Chief Medical Officer has said Covid-19 cases are now growing at a concerning rate. The number of people with the virus being treated in ICU has risen to 101, with more than half of those patients unvaccinated |

Speaking at a NPHET briefing, Dr Holohan appealed to people to continue with the basic health measures such as handwashing, using masks, staying away from crowds, and using ventilation. There are 503 patients in hospital with the virus, down ten on the same time yesterday. There has been a total of 5,436 deaths related to Covid-19 notified in Ireland. This includes 67 deaths newly notified in the last week.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan says Covid-19 is "growing at a rate that is concerning" but that he is hopeful the infection rate will turn a corner if public health advice is followed and that further measures won't be necessary | Read more: https://t.co/JhRXJq2rY2 pic.twitter.com/G115ctrbCm Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has suggested the public conduct personal risk assessments before engaging in higher risk activities | Read more: https://t.co/JhRXJq2rY2 pic.twitter.com/thr1dO43nY

In terms of Ireland's trajectory of numbers of cases, Dr Glynn said although today's figures might seem like an improvement, it is not unexpected due to the bank holiday weekend and that there may very well be a significant increase in cases in the coming days. "If you're going to a nightclub, think about think about the other activities that you’re engaging in in the days after that," he said.

Dr Deirdre Robertson of the ESRI's Behavioural Research Unit said people who have been to outdoor locations give a high rating of safety, compared to people who have been to events or colleges, who feel that those are less safe locations."The population are quite good at recognising that meeting more people and going to different types of locations increases the risk of spreading and catching Covid-19," she said.

"High community transmission poses a substantial risk to this population. A combined effort to reduce incidence is needed to protect the most vulnerable."On the high incidence in children aged between five and 12, Dr Holohan said they were concerned about the rate of transmission in that age group and it has been rising quickly in that group.

Dr Glynn said the numbers of children in hospital with Covid-19 is very small and the bigger concern for NPHET is that children were admitted to hospital with RSV in the last couple of weeks.

Blah Blah

So not the time to open nightclubs. 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

I don't normally comment on this forum but I couldn't resist. My own experience is that the majority of people occupying public space like supermarkets are not using sanitizers ot adhering to any distance also no security on doors - no sign of trolleys being wiped down etc

That's statistically impossible with 93%vax .

What there not telling is that most of the unvaccinated in ICU have underlying health issues and couldn’t take the vaccine, they are in icu because of their health conditions not COVID..

Great to see the vaccine working.. 😀😀😀too many people listening to this garbage

So the other half are vaccinated?

What excuse do they give for no vaccine

Very confusing and annoying the way your headline reads RTE! Or is that the point? Half not vaccinated and possibly an explanation would be more helpful to this already divided nation!! Vaccines have been working looking at the numbers but are they wearing out?

Which also means almost half of those being treated are vaccinated !

Yesterday saw one of the highest discharge days this month - 43 COViD patients discharged. This was undone by 39 new COViD patients that were not COVID admissions COVID admissions yesterday was 25 - lowest in 2 weeks Oct Overall 810 COVID admissions 510 COVID non-admissions

I have a question Are you essentially unvaccinated if you had 2 shots more than 6 months ago?

Treated for what? Actual Covid admissions have fallen 5 days in a row. Highest discharged and lowest admission in a long time yesterday. Oh wait they are also including the 39 people who went in to hospital with something else and ended up getting Covid in there.

Close the schools

The Chief Medical Officer also covered up the Cervical Check scandal, oversaw the swine flu vaccine scandal and the breast implant scandal.
