Reform needed as pandemic shows limited illness benefit for many frontline workers, Varadkar says

Mr Varadkar, who is Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, told Newstalk’s Hard Shoulder programme he intended to bring a memo on the sick pay scheme to Cabinet in June.

The Government had initially hoped to publish details of the scheme during the Spring, but Mr Varadkar said it would be difficult to bring in the new laws during Covid, when many businesses were not making money. However, he confirmed that employers will be asked to shoulder much of the cost for the first period of someone’s illness. “The burden will fall largely on the employers in the initial weeks, and subsequently an enhanced illness benefit system paid for by the social insurance fund will take over.”

Can't find people to work or can't find people to work for what they're paying? Bit of a difference there. Pup should be cut when your sector re-opens if you can’t get a job then your a job seeker

Varadkar, Holohan and experts sound alarm ahead of pubs and travel returning'If we see an increase in severe disease from the Indian variant in the UK, it might be time to slow down the reopening slightly here' Meanwhile in the US, 250000 are enjoying a social event without masks.🧐😃 Is our COVID19 virus worse or is US public health advice deficient compared to Ireland's NPHET ?🤔 The gaslighting will continue as long as you let them do it. Stop listening! Money are more important for the hungry publicans. They have lost the confidence of many of the population. People will find their own way to entertain themselves. Its time too organise outdoor events for the summer. People are already gathering on large groups. They need to keep up with the nation and stop dictating!
