The new salaries of high-level civil servants have been revealed as recession cuts are to be reversed.
The chief justice’s salary will jump from €271,648 to €295,916 with a 8.9pc increase resulting in an added €24,268. Heads of universities currently receive €215,998 a year, but will get a 9pc pay bump which will bring their new salary to €235,594. This is because their salaries were set after the emergency legislation that cut civil servant’s pay was put in place.
He told RTE’s Morning Ireland yesterday that the Government had no legal standing to not reverse the emergency order.
