An Garda Síochána operate a total of 1,322 safety camera zones across Ireland with over 175,000 people caught committing speeding offences last year.Drivers have 28 days to pay the fine from the date the notice is issued and failure to do so will see an increased fine of €120.
What distance can you be caught speeding? The Garda-operated van mounted automatic speed detection radars can catch any speeding cars that drive by it. The GoSafe vans provide a minimum of 6,000 enforcement hours and can be distinguished by their high visibility reflective material and display a safety camera symbol.These are conducted in unmarked vans in order to accurately observe and record the speed that vehicles are travelling.The Gardaí use handheld and tripod mounted laser guns which can detect speeding vehicles up to 1.2 kilometres away.
The Gardaí also have vehicle mounted Puma speed detection equipment, that are used in both marked and unmarked vehicles.
