According to Ikea, the new distribution centre will see delivery times reduced to three days, one of the shortest delivery spans in Europe, as products will no longer be dispatched from the UK.Ikea plans for the centre to make more than 300,000 deliveries in the first year of operation, with that figure almost doubling to nearly 600,000 within five years.
Newly appointed junior minister at the Department of Enterprise, Emer Higgins, welcomed the opening of the new shipping facility and said it would “provide a boost for the local economy, creating 120 new jobs”. The giant warehouse, with a Building Energy Rating of A2, includes features such as rainwater harvesting and roof-based solar panels.
