A new Government scorecard has found that huge inequalities still exist between different sections of society when it comes to housing and income

.

Some 11 indicators were assessed. This included subjective well-being, mental and physical health, knowledge, skills and innovation, income and wealth, housing and the built environment, environment, climate and biodiversity, safety and security, work and job quality and connections, community and participation. However, it fell short on environmental issues, with issues identified with greenhouse gas emissions, waste and water quality all performing poorly.

Some 11 per cent of other households with children and 8.3 per cent of single-person households of retirement age were also more likely to have difficulty making ends meet. Overall, 45 per cent of people in Ireland rated their overall life satisfaction as "very high" in 2018. This was up from 31 per cent on 2012 figures.Between 2014 and 2018, the proportion of school-aged children who reported being happy with their lives at present reduced slightly by less than 2 per cent.
