Exclusive: Rose and Jim’s daughter Rachel was brutally murdered by her husband Joe O’Reilly at the home they shared in Naul, Co Dublin in a crime that shocked the nation on October 4, 2004

The mother of murder victim Rachel Callaly says she won’t stop fighting to keep killer Joe O’Reilly behind bars - as she grieves the sudden loss of her husband.

Since that day they have fought tirelessly to get justice for their daughter - and ultimately to keep the killer behind bars. In it he wrote: “His loss will be felt by so many, not least by his immediate family, but also by his wide circle of friends and colleagues. “It was unbelievable how quick it was. But when I think about it I remember the last few weeks of Jim’s life, he had had a stroke and he was in and out of hospital and the prognosis wasn’t good.

“But it’s a blessing and I know God answered my prayers. I was very, very upset in the beginning and I kept thinking to myself, 'I wonder did he realise he was dying and was he calling us'." “He just lived his life and he lived that life the very best anyone could ever live it. I could honestly say without a shadow of a doubt he never done anyone that much harm in his life and never spoke ill of anyone.
