Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty shared an emotional tribute to Saoirse Ruane at the end of tonight’s programme, remembering the 12-year-old who inspired the hugely successful Toy Show Appeal.
She appeared on the Late Late Toy Show in 2020, speaking to Ryan Tubridy about her illness. It led to the founding of the Toy Show Appeal, which has raised millions for children’s charities across the country. “We can only imagine what Saoirse’s family is going through tonight and we just wanted to add one thing to the many beautiful tributes paid to her over the past couple of days, and that is ‘thank you’.
“Saoirse lit a touch paper in the same way that she lit up our screens and lit up the lives of her family and her friends. And we know that her light will continue to shine for so many for so many years to come.Saoirse’s family announced that she had passed away in a notice online earlier this week.
