The government has approved a new strategy, which is going to public consultation, that will enable local authorities to introduce traffic congestion charges and higher parking fees

It will now be forwarded to public consultation as the government aims to manage and reduce congestion in a bid to improve the transport system and reduce carbon emissions. “It's a medium to long-term strategy. It does put a lot of the choice at local authorities. It's not forcing anything and it’s not making immediate decisions, not putting an immediate charge on anything. The Minister for Transport added: “It does have mean providing the better, quicker alternative. We’re doing that. Rural bus services are taking off from this country and the public are responding in an incredible way.”
