Thousands of motorists are probably entitled to free NCT tests because of the failure of test centres to provide appointments, but none have yet been offered, the Fianna Fáil spokesman on transport has said

Temporary amendments may also be needed to make sure that motorists who do not have valid NCT certificates through no fault of their own, do not find their insurance cover in question, he said. As matters stand, motorists who do not have valid NCT certificates are technically in breach of their insurance terms.

In his constituency of Cork East motorists are finding they are being asked to wait almost four months for their NCT test “and yet the current information is that no one is being offered a refund,” Mr O’Connor said. “Cover will continue to be provided where customers, through no fault of their own, are unable to obtain their NCT due to backlogs at test centres.”

I’d suggest Dublin airport security staff to requalify as NCT workers until next airport crisis. Then they move back to the airport and then to healthcare. And then they can start working on more housing or something. And then invite foreign workers and then to restart next cycle

So they don't know IF the law was amended

PROBABLY?

This could be solved in an instant - instead of NCT ever single year for every car over 4 yrs - do it every 2 years until they get their shit in order!! God forbid anyone actually uses their brain in these places!! Would require emergency legislation but could be done!

Kieronellis27 I tried last august.

NCT was booked for 22nd December. Three days before, the NCT txt to say it was cancelled. Lack of staff. Refunded me and made me book again. Next test is July. Shambles.

Intriguing that few knew about this ,despite it being in the customer Charter, I'd wager over half of tests should have been free. The nonsense about the pandemic, beggar's belief RSAIreland .Can folks now seek refunds 🤔 this could bankrupt the company running this charade
