Speaking on RTÉ's Today with Claire Byrne, Cóilín O'Reilly said there are two very separate issues: toilets and bins, and public health guidelines.
He said he believes measures can be put in place to prevent similar crowds to those seen on South William Street gathering for the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend. He welcomed the engagement between Dublin City Council and An Garda Síochána to put a plan in place to deal with large crowds gathering and the provision of more bins and toilets in the capital.

“Moderation, we find, is an extremely difficult thing to get in this country” Myles na gCopaleen, Cruiskeen Lawn : Nov 1941
Stupid fuckin' statement. How much is this guy being paid.
Get the blinkers off Dublin City Council!! the lack of facilities wasn’t a turn off last wend! With a bank holiday coming up denial is going to be a bad strategy. Letting pubs reopen early to manage the crowds might be a winner.
And this is a problem why exactly?.....
On a lighter note, I'm glad this person isn't on one of those opaque unminuted Nphet sub committees hatching a plan to reduce deaths by closing off access to cemeteries or crematoriums.Given that this time last year Supervised Playgrounds were a requirement, nothing's impossible
So not providing facilities is deliberate and a form of crowd control. What can possibly go wrong?Typifies Covid response. Govt do nothing, put all the responsibility back on the citizen who is then an easy target for criticism,we've seen this repeated over & over, not good enough
“But the cows over there are far away.”
It's a miracle there's any of you still alive after that party ye threw, among yourselves, while telling the population to be responsible and stay at home. Maybe the lack of toilet facilities is what's driving the casedemic?
Exactly, let’s continue to have everyone shit in the street
You couldn't make it up. What a great little country we have. Smh.
The logic of the public sector summed up...
Yes, that's the foremost thought in your head when you want to go on a bender. ' I hope there is a good supply of waste bins'?
I do not pay taxes for people to trash the streets.
So the businesses that provide food/drink get to not have to deal with toilet cleaning & waste disposal. Riiiight. All of that waste would normally be dealt with inside the premesis...now it’s out on public street putting other people off going near other retailers.
What a load of 💩
Ah did he say that though? Did he really? Sure theres no way he could be earning that much and be so silly surely?
Wow....this man is a decision maker 😱😱
Of course, it's madness 😠
Akin to saying, If you put more seatbelts in cars, more people will crash. Baffling logic. Just do your feckin jobs.
Director of city recovery, Jesus h Christ
Very easy fix here, put more bins everywhere and open more outdoor spaces so people spread out
Seriously you couldn't even make this sh1t up 🤦♀️ let's all stay locked inside until 2025 pack of langers 😡
The person that decided this was a good response to what happened last weekend should be sacked.
I find there is not enough bins in Ireland, you buy a coffee to take away, and have to stand with the cup in your hand really long time till you get a small bin, that will probably be full.
FergalBowers 🤯
There's crowds anyway though?
FergalBowers this is exactly the sort of mindset that prevents us from having wider footpaths, more pedestrian areas, benches and plazas and any sort of public amenity really - p45 now please!
Fairly poor indictment of public infrastructure if all takes to attract people to public spaces is basic sanitation.
FergalBowers What happened to its going to be an “outdoor Summer” fail to plan-plan to fail
So, litter strewn streets, which still have to be cleaned, is somehow better than emptying bins?
To be honest I've never factored bins and toilets into my choice or reason of destination DubCityCouncil
Genius! Close the roads to reduce traffic. Close playgrounds to stops attracting kids. Make busses smaller to help with the public transport demand.
FergalBowers Lame reply 😡 DCR is obviously not a woman of certain age! There is no rhyme or reason for cafes with toilet facilities to keep them closed so far this year. They want our business ☕ , provide 🚽 Fluid in ☕ ➡️ fluid out 🚻 ! notrocketscience
FergalBowers How much is he paid to come up with that nugget of genius?
FergalBowers What happened to the outdoor summer?
