Senior Government ministers are to meet the CEOs of the country's main retail banks today as pressure grows on them to further extend their offer of loan repayment breaks.

Now that six-month period is due to come to an end, even though many borrowers remain in financial distress.Today, Leo Varadkar, Paschal Donohoe and Michael McGrath will meet senior management from the main banks and it is expected the issue will be discussed. Last week, the European Banking Authority said payment breaks will be phased out from the end of this month as planned.
