Some day for a game!

Mick Lynch has had a busy time of it this summer. As general secretary of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers , he has been at the forefront of media focus on the rail strikes taking place in the UK.

He's become something of a cult hero over the past few months, with his witty put-downs of Tory politicians and Piers Morgan going viral. Lynch has also endeared himself to Irish people, revealing that both his mother and father are Irish, while his hero is Irish revolutionary James Connolly. In a move that is sure to make his legend grow even further, the 60-year old found the time to pop down to Turners Cross to witness his beloved Cork City in action last night. And to make things even better, he bumped into 'Young Offenders' star Shane Casey in what can only be described as one of the strangest crossovers ever.Lynch's connection to his Irish roots are strong with his father hailing from Cork and his mother from Crossmaglen.

In a recent interview on ITV’s flagship politics show Peston, Mick was asked who his political hero was, to which he said James Connolly. He asked the host whether she knew who it was and said: “Irish Socialist Republican. He educated himself and he started non-sectarian trade unionism in Ireland and he was a hero of the Irish revolution.Unfortunately for Lynch his trip to Turners Cross came at the worst possible time as the home side fell to a 2-0 defeat to Treaty United.
