A 16-hour low temperature weather warning has been issued for the entire country by Met Eireann this afternoon.
The warning, for all 26 counties in the Republic of Ireland, states: "Temperatures will fall to minus 3 or 4 degrees tonight, colder locally away from coasts. This will lead to a widespread hard ground frost and icy surfaces, with potentially dangerous conditions." A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Icy patches may linger today as temperatures are slow to rise. Scattered showers, some possibly with sleet to the north, will slowly die out as sunny spells develop this afternoon. Highest temperatures reaching between 3 to 5 degrees generally, a degree or two milder near coasts.
