There will be a few more days of snow, sleet and hail before the weather turns 'slightly warmer'

Parts of the country woke up to a blanket of snow this morning as a number of schools closed in Cork and Donegal due to the wintry weather.

Met Eireann have also issued a number of weather warnings for snow and ice that cover a total of 23 counties and will remain in place overnight on Tuesday. "Scattered sleet and snow showers with some accumulations possible. Icy stretches likely," a Met Eireann forecaster said. This warning is valid from 5.16pm on Tuesday until 9am on Wednesday.

Tomorrow will see snow in some parts early on Wednesday morning, and it is set to be a cold day with temperatures ranging between 2C to 5C. There will be a mix of sunny spells and more snow possible as scattered wintry showers will be most frequent in the north and northwest of Ireland.
