A 15-hour Status Yellow weather warning is in place as heavy rain and flooding are set to hit tonight.
It reads: "Heavy and at times intense rainfall with totals of 25 to 40mm expected. This may result in localized flooding. The rain will clear western counties by early Wednesday morning." A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Any mist and fog patches soon clearing to give a bright start today, with sunny spells. A few scattered showers will continue, mainly in western and northwestern coastal areas. Cloud will increase from the west during the day, with rain extending from the Atlantic during the afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh southerly winds will become strong and gusty near Atlantic coasts by evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees.
"A wet and blustery start tomorrow across the midlands and east, with heavy rain for a time and a continued risk of spot flooding.
