Storm Atiyah has been battering Ireland since last night, and half of the country is currently under a Status Orange wind warning.However, as of this morning, Kerry has been singled out for a rare Status Red wind warning. Issued at 10am, the red alert will come into effect at 4pm on Sunday afternoon and remain in place until 7pm .
The warning reads:"West to southwest winds veering northwest will reach mean speeds in excess of 80km/h with gusts in excess of 130km/h for a time this evening. Extreme caution is advised, especially near the coast and on high ground.Kerry County Council has advised people to take the necessary precautions, including s
ecuring items or property which are susceptible to high winds such as hoarding, signage, Christmas lights/decorations, garden furniture, bins, trampolines, etc.They have also said:"Motorists, cyclists & pedestrians traveling on Sunday, please take care on all roads and be mindful of the possibilities of debris, fallen trees and branches or power lines etc. - particular after dark. Avoid taking unnecessary journeys.
As things stand, there is also a Status Orange wind warning in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick — this warning will be in place until 6am on Monday.Share article
