Ireland may experience an early glimpse of summer weather next week, with models tentatively showing temperatures approaching 20C. In the meantime, Storm Kathleen poses a threat this weekend with Met Eireann issuing a number of early weather warnings.

Ireland could enjoy a teaser of summer weather next week, with weather models suggesting temperatures could come close to 20C.

However it is unlikely to be classified as an official heatwave. Heatwaves are often defined as five days of consecutive above average temperatures, but the national forecaster previously told the Irish Mirror: "That is a working definition used by some other met offices, but the Met Eireann definition of a heatwave is five consecutive days of temperatures above 25C.

Giving the forecast for the week of April 8 to April 14, it said: “Unsettled conditions will persist during this period with low pressure to the northwest of Ireland dominating the country’s weather and maintaining a westerly airflow over the region. This will bring Atlantic frontal systems across the country at times, with frequent spells of rain and showers. As a result, it will be wetter than average nationwide. There is potential for some heavy rain at times.
