Speaking on RTÉ's Morning Ireland, Mr McGrath said his officials would meet the Irish Congress of Trade Unions next week to discuss public sector pay.
He said that pay alone cannot be used to address inflationary pressures and that the Government has other levers at its disposal. The comments came as Fórsa, the country's largest public sector union, held its national conference in Killarney where delegates passed a series of motions calling for pay increases to help ease the pressures of inflation.
Mr McGrath said he accepted it was a really difficult period for people, and that it was"unparalleled in recent history". He said there will be"meaningful discussions" to discuss pay increases as he acknowledged the current level of inflation is having a"real impact" on public and private sector workers and the unemployed.

Thanks for the laugh Michael, you missed your vocation, a comedian 😂
If McGrath really had any concern for the taxpayer he wouldn’t be giving large pay increases to the likes of Watt or the horse-racing CMO, or taxing everyone during a cost of living crisis. He’s pretentious attitude will be his downfall at the next election.
