Tánaiste says the killing of the school teacher is a ‘watershed moment’ for Irish society

“We have all committed collectively to make sure that that does not happen again. And that when somebody takes that difficult step to come forward, that they will be treated with the respect and the dignity and the support that they deserve,” she said.said neither Government nor society should lose momentum in tackling gender-based violence following the murder of Ms Murphy.

“I hope that this can be a watershed moment. And I hope that we don’t lose the momentum perhaps that’s been generated by the extraordinary public response to what’s happened. “Helen McEntee is showing a lot of leadership on this and we’ll have our new strategy on gender based violence quite soon.”In an interview with RTÉ’s This Week, Mr Varadkar was asked what practical measures would be implemented.

“I think we need to act as a society as well. Government can and will lead, but we also need to act as a society and that’s particularly true of men.

We have heard all this before mother baby homes years of neglect for woman's health most of it fatal

But the murder of 3 young boys by their mother wasn't a watershed moment?

But the murder of 3 young boys by their murder wasn't a watershed moment?

We need actions not words. A life sentence should mean a life sentence and not 12 years! Where is the disincentive? Let's get real with sentences!

Another 1...

Insinuating there was tolerance previously!

Every right minded Irish citizen has always wanted a zero tolerance to gender or any other type of violence. It’s always been the judicial system which has let us down. Countless scum bags walking the streets with multiple convictions. There should be no tolerance.

Did he have a comment about the poor man in Donegal, that was also murdered last week?

Murderers should get life Sex offenders should be crucified And no more of this 87 previous conviction bullshit that we are all sick of seeing. 3 strikes should equal serious time behind bars Maybe retire most of the totally inept judges who currently sit on the bench.

She should add children abuse to zero tolerance it seen Irish justice system have a zero intolerance to abuse sexual of children

Urantsetseg Tserendorj should have been a turning point, oh wait she was forigen so not a good one for the politicians to hang on

Nothing will happen regarding violent offenders and the ridiculous judiciary. What will happen will be more radical feminist propaganda pumed into the schools and society in agenda.

It can only be a watershed if we can Decommission the language of Justification, the language of Hate, time for Murderers and their Cheer-leaders to leave the Stage!

Why wasn’t there a watershed moment when Deirdre Morley murdered her 3 children?

“Zero-tolerance” MUST include catcalling—which allows men to harass strangers with impunity. Impunity leads to worse crimes.

By which he means there'll be expensive public promotion of 'toxic masculinity' guff but still absolute shiteloads of convicted violent criminals wandering the streets.

The school teacher. Jaysus lads what type of English were ye learnt !

Need to impose proper sentences. This country is a shambles for its justice system.
