A herd of goats from Mayo who are"living happily" after taking up residency in Dublin last year are working hard to prevent gorse fires on the Hill of Howth.
"Myself and a crew of 25 Old Irish goats from Mulranny in Mayo arrived in Howth on 8 September to start a three-year project for fire mitigation in Howth." Ms Jeuken explained that the goats were drafted in to"control the growth of gorse and manage the fire breaks that were created previously".
It is a solution but at a further cost. Less gorse but less everything else also.
Watch what happens when the start eating some rich bastards hydrangeas
think_or_swim quick kill them before the methane causes a forest fire
How are the goats going to stop people starting fires deliberately.
Mmmmm roast or curried goat
I suppose rte would rather cover this on the news than homelessness increasing.
How are goat numbers maintained? Are there hunting licences, and what happens to the meat?
The rewilding crowd will be enraged. They are grazing the hill.
C’mon where’s the climate change/methane impact? Will these goats be hit the 25% cut?
Maybe some North Dublin goats could be resettled Mayo to improve the climate there.
Outrageous. Taking jobs from Dublin goats. 😤
Wait till the food shortages come they be face up and someone dinner table lol
God if the green army have their way, they will be dead
If a farmer grazes the hills they are abused for overgrazing and told they should rewild everything. But this exposes the fallacy of that narrative completely. Or is it another double standard, rewilding and risk of fires are allowed except where the rich people live
OMG!! Are those goats not literally causing global warming by being alive?
I wonder if the Fire Brigade are not just setting this scenario up to use them as escape goats for any future disasters.
Sounds like a story from Paw patrol
It's a great idea that should be rolled out country wide.
