The Students' Union in Maynooth has expressed its anger at a decision by the university to stop the construction of a new student centre, saying college-goers feel forgotten | More:

Maynooth University has said rising costs linked to technical construction issues and hyperinflation have"adversely impacted" its completion.

However, the university said it wants to reassure students and alumni"that the student levy fund will not be affected by this decision". The University’s Vice-President of External Affairs Rebecca Doolin said monies from the fund will not be lost because of the termination of the contract and the student levy is, and will remain, ring-fenced for student facilities.

The university said that as a public sector institution, it is a"steward of public monies" and is obligated to abide by public sector spending code rules and legislation for procurement.

I’m more pissed about the parking facilities it’s a disgrace. Cars getting clamped left right and centre. Cars with permits still getting clamped, leaving NOW two hours early just to find a car space on time. Ridiculous

Bloody students!

Maynooth terminating the student centre due to rising cost after opening a new €48 million building this year is disgusting. Students sitting outside in the cold on benches whereismylevy

Time to take action.

I don't understand why they are angry. They have a lot more in the college than when I went. They should consider themselves lucky and maybe pay for it themselves if they want it so badly.🙄

'Forgotten'? They get it: that's why they were sent to NUI Maynooth. 🎓

Don’t they go there to study? I am confused, i say we got bigger problems.

Imagine they waited until every student paid their levy a few weeks ago to announce this scam. That's some haul for nothing.

As an alumni and paid my student levy this is an utter disgrace. I will be requesting a refund. WheresMyLevy

This is now a project that will not happen and the eyesore site will be there as a reminder of what could have been. Shame.

Well considering the accommodation has been given to refugees and asylum seekers I'm not surprised they haven't realised they have been sitting on the students this whole time

Anger? Typical ungrateful, self entitled, leftist students. Prices for building materials have skyrocketed in recent weeks. There is no magic money tree.

MaynoothUni Supporting the COVID-19 fraud to the hilt worked out well didn't it? This is seriously funny and totally deserved. I doubt your feral Communist students even know that your laughable University are partly responsible for the rampant inflation. 😆 Refunds to students?

Maynooth University terminates construction of new student centre projectThe project, due to be completed by July, was being funded through a €150 annual student levy since 2015 I find it deliciously ironic that the inflation that this Communist indoctrination camp helped cause with their unscientific support of lockdowns and their feral Communist students harassing anti lockowners incessantly has put the skids on this development. It's so hilarious! 😆
