The television presenter retired from Nationwide and the national public broadcaster in 2019 after she turned 65 and opens up about her work life since she made the major change

Mary Kennedy opened up about the freedom after retiring from RTE and her work life since she made the decision. She explained that she is “very grateful” for the people she gets to work with.Mary shared that due to her work with RTE, she wasn’t able to take on the opportunities she does now because they are a public broadcaster.

She told RSVP Live: “I have the freedom to do these things, because as a staff member at RTE you just don’t have the freedom to take on these things. “It’s understandable, because they’re a state broadcaster and have an impartiality that’s implied, so I couldn’t take on business and corporate jobs. However, I’ve the freedom to do that now.

“I do a lot of gigs and I’m very grateful that people want me to do that, but I find that they come in spurts with time in-between.She reflected on how important it is to balance your work life and your personal life to make sure you don’t have regrets in the end. Mary said: “I read a book at the end of last year about the top five regrets of dying people. It was by a woman who worked in a hospital in Australia. One of them was that they wished they had spent more time with the people that they loved.“There’s so many people who waited to get to a certain point in their career, but it matters not a wit when it comes to the end.“Every day is a gift and so is your health.
