The Taoiseach has confirmed that an inquiry will be set up to examine allegations of abuse and cover up at Spiritan-run schools including Blackrock College

Micheál Martin said"some form of inquiry would have to be established" and the Government would engage with victims to hear their views on the best approach.Asked about how any probe might handle the expanding number of schools and orders facing allegations, Mr Martin said lessons would have to be learned from previous inquiries.

Survivors have been urged to come forward to tell their story and gardaí are appealing for anyone who wishes to report a crime relating to Spiritan schools and the Spritan order to contact them. A documentary broadcast on RTÉ Radio One last week related details of abuse against two brothers at Blackrock College during the 1970s and 1980s. For the purpose of reporting to An Garda Síochána, the following options are available: By emailing GNPSB_SCMU@garda.ie; By phoning the Sexual Crime Management Unit on 01-6663430 or 01-6663435; By phoning the 24/7 confidential and free Garda Child Sexual Abuse Reporting Line on 1800 555 222.

RTEdoconone In tears listening to this. Those poor boys. Those bastards.

Time for our corrupt government to be jailed for their crimes against humanity

Why?

STOP SUPPORTING MURDERERS 330,000 1 IN 8 DESTROYED BY COVID THE GOVERNMENT COVERED UP THE REAL NUMBERS. STOP SUPPORTING MASS MURDERERS IN THE GOVERNMENT AND HSE

Surely this should be a criminal investigation.

Inquiry, long and drawn out, costing millions, redacted reports, no perpetrator named or punished. In other words, standard government procedure

When is the inquiry starting as to how a man who was only elected on the 3 count or 4 count can be Taoiseach

Should be an inquiry following the abuse at Stranorlar. Vulnerable people abused, with full knowledge of the people supposed to be caring for them. Cover up. An apology and off you go MichealMartinTD LeoVaradkar AnneRabbitte ThomasPringleTD RoisinShortall catherinegalway

What is to be gained from an 'inquiry'? If there is suspicion of criminal activity, including cover ups, it is a matter for the Gardaí. What will an inquiry achieve?

Will there be one about the nursing homes?

Send in the bloody cops. Shit house stalling

RTEdoconone Honestly, if he was serious he would remove the CPSMA and Ceist, strip them of power and property, and deal with it for once and for all, no mercy for an institution that showed no mercy.

Another cash cow inquiry for the legal profession with a lessons learned report , hope any surviving abusers are directly prosecuted .

Get religious people / management out of Irish schools

No inquiry into what’s gone on in the more recent past though…

For “ lessons to be learned”

Don’t take years to decide please He compromised the investigation that the Gardai were conducting about him a year ago. Why is he not in prison? But nobody will be held accountable and face consequences

Blackrock College abuse: Why did leading voices stay silent for so long? The south Dublin private school has produced some of modern Irish society’s loudest voices. It’s baffling that what went on there didn’t seep out sooner hlinehan About a fifth of this piece deals with the abuse. Another fifth asks the reasonable and important question of why this has not come to light before. The rest seems like a critique of B-rock as a snob factory and feels like 'knives out' for the wealthy parents. Abuse is abuse. hlinehan I'm afraid it is victim blaming. The children's wealth or privilege should not be brought in to this. 'It appears that some of the most powerful and allegedly best educated men in the country ... failed in a way their allegedly less fortunate counterparts did not' Helping out a colleague at the IT perhaps? One who also missed the mark?

Individual in leadership role at Blackrock College 'was told of abuse allegations in 2002', Dáil hearsLabour leader Ivana Bacik has claimed that an individual currently in a 'key leadership role' in Blackrock College was informed of abuse allegations at the school 20 years ago. I suspect you do not need to be Sherlock Holmes to compare list of 'leaders' then and now to solve the puzzle. Media not picking up on fact that even now, after ChildrenFirst legislation outlined need for MandatoryReporting in 2017 there's no way to enforce it other than a professional body taking action. Many professions not registered incl counselling/Psychology. This should change. Probably McGinty the principal. Has pushed back hard on bullying allegations against himself with lawyers letters.
