Micheál Martin said Irish and EU support for Ukraine had led to greater risks across several different areas.During a press conference, the Tánaiste, who is also the defence minister, was asked if Ireland’s strong support of Ukraine following the Russian invasion had increased risks to maritime security and cybersecurity.“Yes, there are higher levels of activity, particularly on the cybersecurity front,” Mr Martin said.
“We've seen situations in the Nord Stream or other incidents that have happened in relation to cables. We are under increased risk as a result of that.“I have concerns in terms of elections. We've seen in other jurisdictions clear evidence of interference through social media platforms. They could be more immediate risks.
“Now we have to build up the capacity of the Electoral Commission to be in a position to identify any risks to our electoral processes.”
