A beloved landmark on the city's main thoroughfare since the 1850s, many marriages are said to have started with a couple meeting for their first date under the famous clock.
Located at the top of Patrick Street, it was installed on the street by Mangan Jewellers, who had a shop nearby from 1817 to the late 1980s. Mangan Jewellers was also responsible for the installation of the 'four faced liar', the iconic clock on St Anne's Church in Shandon. The clock on Patrick Street is cast iron, comprising of a square-profile base, with two faces having decorative surrounds and surmounted by finial.
The work is due to start at the end of January and take about three months, according to Cork City Council.
