A man who beat up his former partner and subjected her to a “terrifying ordeal” has been given a suspended sentence

Image: Laura Hutton via RollingNews.ie Image: Laura Hutton via RollingNews.ie A MAN WHO beat up his former partner and subjected her to a “terrifying ordeal” has been given a suspended sentence.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that during the prolonged assault, Farnan told the woman she wouldn’t leave the house alive. In a victim impact statement, she said the attack traumatised her in every way and the physical injuries left her unable to lift or play physically with her child. “Had there been any violence in his background, I would have imposed a custodial sentence,” the judge said, before addressing Farnan directly.

The following morning, a car pulled up at speed outside Power’s home. Farnan came in, dropped a bag of unopened beer and dragged Power into the kitchen. He threw a chair at her. She crawled into the sitting room and Farnan then threw a pram at her and screamed at her to stand up. He then threw her back on the floor.

When he does it again to another woman, that judge has only herself to blame.

He should have gotten a custodial sentence if he did this to an animal. He did this to a young mother who will carry that with her for the rest of her life. Why did she bother retraumatising herself giving a statement & a victim impact statement for him to get a slap on the wrist

FFS, while he was distracted she managed to pick up her baby and escape, her baby. A fupp’n suspended sentence. What do you need to do in Ireland to get jail time? No TV licence, Speeding, carrying a joint.

LauraSweenee Shocking, Judge Karen O Connor ‘thought long and hard’, really? 😡 She has enabled the perpetrator with this ruling. Sends all the wrong messages to victims and abusers.

My first tweet but this made me furious!!! Section 40 domestic violence act 2018 states that the relationship between a defendant and a victim is an aggravating factor in sentencing. While global homicide figures are reducing femicide figures are increasing.

That will teach him , I'd say hes now a model citizen

Justice .Is Right🙄🙄

Pathetic !

The prisons are full with people that didn’t pay their TV license

Disgusting. Again females in Ireland are treated worse than animals & the states response, its ok. There isnt even a mention of psychiatric help for him. Even I know that this was not the 1st or last time he will do this. But I guess he hurt a woman & its cheaper to ignore it

If it was a judge on the receiving end of the same treatment, that thug would have been sent down for a very long time. Disgraceful.

Slap on the wrist and be a good boy😡

Another diabolical non sentence.

The law sure is an ass,,,this judge has just given the green light for abusers to abuse shame on you

So Judge O' Connor thought long and hard about this and decided he deserved to walk. Are women in Ireland actually safe, the judicial laws are a joke.

Yeah, great day in court for that woman. She'll rest easy now, knowing that he has the permission of the court to actually kill her.

Ireland justice system is very relaxed on abuse What a joke

What a country! abuse partners.

Joke
