The man was taken from the scene to University Hospital Galway, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the car did not require hospital treatment.
The road at the crash site is closed for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place on the N83 between Corofin Cross and Corrandrum National School. Gardaí are appealing to people who may have witnessed this incident to come forward, adding that investigations are ongoing.
Did the car not collide with the pedestrian?
So the pedestrian collided with the car
HanneyDP I note that in their broadcast news RTÉ refers to these events as “incidents” in which a “pedestrian was hit by a car”. I wish other media would do the same and avoid euphemisms like “collision with” and misrepresentations like “accident” - there’s almost always a cause.
'A man in his 40s has died after being struck by a person driving a car' What a terrible headline and reporting on an awful tragedy. needs to do so much better. RIP.
How did the car hit the pedestrian? If someone shot a man , would you have a headline saying 'Gun kills man'?
