The incident occurred on the R395 at Teevrevagh in Castlepollard around 6.40pm, when the car that the man was driving collided with a roadside ditch.
It’s the second road death that occurred on Tuesday, after a mother and child were killed in a collision with an articulated lorry in Mayo just an hour before the crash in Westmeath. “Gardaí are currently at scene of a single-vehicle fatal road traffic collision involving a car that occurred on the R395 at Teevrevagh, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath,” said a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána.
