The Fair City star said he was living life 'like a robot'

The Fair City icon suffered from mental health struggles following his marriage split a couple of years ago and said he was living life "like a robot".

"I had a complete psychological breakdown to the point where I couldn't speak. I was still going to work, doing all the stuff, but I was like a robot," he said. "I know it sounds soppy but every day I'm just thankful to have her in my life. She is a great anchor for me and I don't know what I'd do without her," he told the RTE Guide.View gallery Even at his lowest point, Maclean said he knew he needed to go on for the sake of his four kids Cillian, Jude, Ava and Beau.

Maclean added that being surrounded by supportive people was key for him. He also adopted a fitness regime with Cat and has given up alcohol. "Having kids young is great because you have the energy to deal with them. The downside is that you're also just a big kid yourself," he continued to the publication.
