Six Irish businesses were served with closure orders for breaches of food safety legislation in August, according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland .
Among the reasons for the month's food closures include a live mouse found in a kitchen, a large amount of rodent droppings, flies seen at a vegetable display area, cobwebs and dust in a kitchen, a trolley holding a container of raw chicken with rust present on it, incorrect allergen information, and no hot water provided for the staff toilet.
Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, FSAI emphasised that compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations should be of the highest priority for all food businesses: "Filthy conditions, unhygienic practices and a lack of adequate pest control measures being in place are the main reasons for this month’s Closure Orders."It is essential that food businesses have a strong food safety and hygiene culture in their business, which can be achieved through ongoing training of all members of their team.
"Food safety inspectors are continuing to encounter basic errors being made by food businesses which are easily avoidable.""If it’s right today, it won’t be right in twelve months time" - Jim Barry on evolving in business
